About

What is there to say really about witzend? Well, since you’re probably here because of the Caching in the NorthWest podcast, or through geocaching in general, I’ll start there.

I’ve been “techy” or “nerdy” for as long as I can remember. I’ve always wanted to know what made things tick, so I would often disassemble things just to see what was inside. Thankfully, I’ve also been gifted with a knack for getting those items reassembled. There have been rare exceptions, but by and large, if I take it apart, it will go back together again and function when I’m done.

I love maps, too, so when SA was turned off and everyone had the opportunity to have gps mapping, I was thrilled! It took me a while to afford one, but once I cobbled a strange homebrew unit together, I looked up this geocaching thing I had heard about. I was at my high school reunion back in SoCal in 2004 when I decided to give it a try. There were a lot of internet lookups and cache description printouts in those early days, but I still managed to find a handful that weekend, and I was hooked! Whenever I had a little free time, (and sometimes when I didn’t) I would make sure to grab a geocache and log another find. It was great fun then, and over 10 years later it’s still great fun. I thoroughly enjoy the journey, and I don’t focus so much on the numbers game. I’d much rather enjoy a day with friends on the trail and log a couple caches than rush rush through a “power trail” just to increase my finds. I’ll probably never go find the ET Highway series, but there are lots of people that enjoy that, and that’s what makes this such a fun hobby. There’s really something here for everyone.

I’ve been very very blessed with a wide variety of interests in life, and this is just one of the many things I enjoy. If you’ve never tried it, I encourage you to get out and give it a try. If you’re in this area, get in touch with me, and I might even go with you.

Now, though, there is some interest pulling me away, and I’ve got to go. Enjoy your time here on my humble little website.
